Air tightness testing

In order to demonstrate compliance with Part L Building regulations buildings should be designed with adequate ventilation provision. Above this designed or “controlled” ventilation, a further amount of uncontrolled air “infiltration” is tolerated, and this will vary according to the overall design of the building. On completion of the building, an air tightness test measures the “uncontrolled” ventilation the general minimum level for design air permeability is 10m3 per hour per m2 of the building envelope at a maintained pressure differential of 50 PASCAL’s.

Fully accredited testing
We liaise closely with site management to ensure that testing in conducted with the minimum of disruption. In addition to the actual testing, our service includes the detailed calculation of the dwelling’s ‘air barrier envelope area’, all necessary test preparation, such as temporary sealing of ventilation, and in the event of test-failure, we conduct a thorough inspection of the dwelling, using smoke testing techniques to locate the air leakage sites.
